Céline Shen French, b. 1988
Overview
Céline Shen (b. 1988, France) is a French multidisciplinary artist, designer, and researcher based in Paris. Her transdisciplinary practice examines the permeability between artistic fields and advances an “imaginal” approach that seeks a synesthetic continuum between forms: art, design, choreography, fashion, and digital creation, toward a perpetually evolving body of work.
Working across physical and virtual registers, she develops phygital dispositifs in which material operates as an interface and gesture as a poetic language.
Céline Shen’s training combines philosophy at Sorbonne University, dance at the Institut Supérieur des Arts et des Chorégraphies (ISAC), and fashion design at the École des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD). This trajectory informs a practice attentive to both conceptual inquiry and embodied knowledge, articulated through textiles,
performance, sensory installation, and immersive media. Her work engages societal and art-historical questions surrounding authentication and copying, aura and reproduction, domestic space, and the potential of design. It also resonates with the legacy of 1990s “design for disassembly” and extends into contemporary
explorations of human–machine interfaces under conditions of digital ubiquity and decentralization.
Shen received the ADAGP “Révélation Design” Prize (2019) and was the subject of a portrait on ARTE. In 2021, she was awarded the Zeugma Innovation Prize, and in 2022 joined the Station F incubator. She co-founded Orion 3000 (O3) with Yvonne Senouf, a Web3 platform dedicated to digital art and space imaginaries, bringing together artists, engineers, scientists, futurists, and researchers around models of collective
intelligence.
In 2023, she presented a choreographic fashion performance featuring robots in collaboration with SoftBank Robotics and was invited to Hong Kong for her solo exhibition “Nexus Design,” organized by the Hong Kong and Macao consulate. In 2025, she has also held an artist residency at the Abbaye de Maubuisson.
Central to her methodology is a research-driven ecosystem developed in close collaboration with Paris-based scientific and technological laboratories. Within this framework, she is currently conceiving projects that mobilize immersive technologies and artificial intelligence across design, choreography, fashion, and visual art to produce transformative aesthetic experiences and to test emerging paradigms in which art and science cross-pollinate while preparing her next solo show.
