ABOUT
Founded in 2020, Qualia Contemporary Art exhibits a multi-generational program featuring work across mediums by emerging and established artists from Asia and its diasporas. Based in Palo Alto, CA where technology, innovation, and global cultures converge, the gallery focuses on the presentation and development of artists with diverse cultural and historical backgrounds, uniting tradition and contemporary approaches to art practice.
Represented and exhibited artists are included in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), SFMOMA, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, and the Centre Pompidou, with features in major global biennials including Venice and Documenta. The gallery participates in global fairs, including EXPO Chicago, Art Central, and West Bund Art & Design.
Dacia Xu, the co-founder and director of the gallery, has a P.h.D in Material Science and brings a background in science, technology, and academia to her work in the arts. Her interdisciplinary perspective informs Qualia’s approach to cross-disciplinary presentations and public enrichment programs across various forms of knowledge.
