Qualia Contemporary Art is pleased to present an Artist Talk and Color Calligraphy Demonstration with acclaimed multimedia artist Chu Chu on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Returning to the Bay Area following her recent travels across the United States, Chu Chu will share insights into her creative practice and lead a live demonstration of her signature color calligraphy. Exploring the intersections of language, memory, and the dimension of time, her work interweaves personal travel reflections, engagement with literary texts, and present sensations, transforming written thought into a dynamic visual experience.
Throughout this two-hour program, guests will have a rare opportunity to observe the artist's spontaneous creative process firsthand as text merges with vibrant pigment on paper. The demonstration will be accompanied by an artist talk and an open audience Q&A, offering deeper insight into her cross-disciplinary practice bridging photography, ink painting, classical poetics, and modern media.
Chu Chu is renowned for her distinctive, cross-disciplinary works that bridge photography, ink painting, and calligraphy with classical poetry, philosophy, and modern poetics.
Her works are held in premier institutional collections worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, Harvard Art Museums, Smith College Museum of Art, RISD Museum, and the Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum. Known for engaging live activations, Chu Chu continually pushes the boundaries of traditional Chinese brushwork through contemporary multimedia synthesis.
