Du Zhenjun Chinese-French, b. 1961

Born in Shanghai in 1961, Du Zhenjun graduated from the School of Fine Arts at Shanghai University and later completed a postgraduate diploma in “Digital Spaces” at the Rennes School of Fine Arts.

Since 1992, he has participated in numerous exhibitions in galleries, museums, and public spaces across France, Japan, China, South Africa, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, Brazil, and Morocco.

Du Zhenjun first became known for his interactive video installations, which use sensor-based systems to capture movements arising from encounters between virtual figures and viewers. The resulting works are dynamic and responsive to the actions of their audiences, who are no longer positioned outside the artwork but instead contribute to the creation of its content. Without relying on words, these installations invite us to reflect on our shared humanity.

In his works centered on the theme of the Tower of Babel, he presents a vision of the world through large-format photographs in which overpopulation, intensive urbanization, and spatial saturation combine to form densely layered landscapes.

These landscapes are composed of countless fragments of tragic and ordinary images from contemporary life, assembled from preparatory drawings and images sourced from the internet.

Since 2015, he has returned to painting.

Beginning in 2022, he started working with artificial intelligence, which he regards both as a model for a virtual world and as a source of inspiration for the creation of a series of artificial worlds.
